Synopsis
Anora, a young Brooklyn sex worker, impulsively meets and marries the son of an oligarch
Upon her arrival in Russia, her fairytale is threatened when her parents head to New York to have their marriage annulled. At the Cannes Film Festival press conference, Mikey Madison said that director Sean Baker will be performing various sex positions with his wife, producer Samantha Quan, to show the actors what he wants from them. STOP! SCREAM! I don’t know Sean Baker very well as a director. I know he made a movie called “Red Rocket” and another called “The Florida Project” with Willem Dafoe, but I haven’t seen either one.
I loved the movie
He won the Palme d’Or for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival this year for his new film “Anora.” So I was really excited to see it. I just saw it and I was not disappointed. Mikey Madison plays the title role of “Anora,” a stripper and belly dancer from New York who meets a rich Russian man who pays her for sex and likes her so much that he pays her for a week with him. Then he proposes to her.
They go to Las Vegas and get married
Then his parents find out he got married and try to get the marriage annulled. The story is pretty simple, but the movie is very entertaining from start to finish and the audience I saw it with found it very funny and laughed a lot. The movie is very emotionally engaging and I really got attached to the character of Anora, played by Mikey Madison. She gives the best performance of the year and I really hope she gets nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress next year.
This movie is great
Sean Baker is definitely a director to watch and I can’t wait to see what he does next. Director Sean Baker and actress Mikey Madison are definitely the perfect film pairing. Check out the full lineup for the 62nd New York Film Festival this fall.
